Very fine needles and a deep rest.
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Very fine, single-use sterile needles are placed at carefully chosen points on the body.
In TCM, these points are understood in relation to Qi (energy), the meridians and patterns within the body.
Most people are surprised by how little they feel. The needles are much finer than the ones used for injections or blood tests. Once they're in, many people drift into a deep, heavy rest, and some fall asleep.
Acupuncture for fertility and IVF
Many women like to use acupuncture while trying to conceive, and during IVF, as a regular pause in what can be a busy and anxious few weeks. Clients often tell me they feel calmer, more settled and better able to cope with the waiting. For IVF, I can time sessions around your cycle, and there's an acupuncture package for the months leading up to it.
What to expect
Your first session begins with a chat about your health and what has brought you to me. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, as many of the points are on the arms, lower legs and abdomen.
Acupuncture isn't suitable for everyone, so please tell me about any medication you take (especially blood thinners), any bleeding disorders, or if you might be pregnant.
